The exciting Seaplane Play Space at Catalina Estate in Mindarie has reached practical completion and subject to COVID-19 restrictions will be taking on passengers soon.
A vibrant and engaging play and meeting space for the community has been created, incorporating a new shaded picnic area overlooking the playground and numerous nature play elements. Inspired by the Catalina Flying Boats of the 1930s, the centrepiece of the play space is a large Seaplane rising precariously on a wave of blue rubber softfall, with disgorged cargo crates “floating” nearby, providing an exciting space for imaginative play, exploration and discovery. The Seaplane incorporates diverse play opportunities, including a cubby structure, tunnel slide, climbing net, and climbing bars.
The themed playground provides active recreation through challenging play elements and is designed to cater to children aged between 7 and 13 years.
The Catalina Seaplane is a Cubby Structure with fuselage, wings, tail and front cabin. There is a net leading into the rear fuselage of the Seaplane and a tunnel slide leading out of an aerial rope walkway. The fuselage of the plane rises on blue "wave-like" rubber softfall, with disgorged cargo crates "floating" nearby. The fuselage provides an appealing play tunnel for exploration and imaginative play. The wing areas are open allowing vision through.
